Blackbeard Exhibit

Blackbeard's Last Stand: The Queen Anne's Revenge

Artifacts from one of the most important shipwreck discoveries of our time come to the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum.

Through a collabaoration with the North Carolina Maritime Museum, the NHNM will be exhibiting their traveling exhibit, "The Search for Queen Anne’s Revenge”, beginning May 24th and continuing through August 1st.

This exhibit contains many of the artifacts from the famed pirate Blackbeard’s flagship. Some of the artifacts on display will include blunderbuss barrels, cannon balls, platters and sounding weights salvaged from the wreck of Blackbeard’s vessel.

Myth, Mystery & Legend

In November 1996, an unidentified shipwreck was discovered just outside Beaufort Inlet in North Carolina. Many researchers believe the remains are those of the long-lost flagship
of Blackbeard the Pirate — the fabled Queen Anne’s Revenge.

Everybody Loves a Rogue

It’s human nature to be intrigued by people who make a living doing dangerous or illegal things. History and legend are full of “lovable rogues” such as

  • Robin Hood,
  • Jesse James, and
  • Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Hollywood has dramatized the pirate life for years, from Errol Flynn in the classic “Captain Blood” (which was filmed in Newport Harbor in 1935) to Johnny Depp in the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

Were pirates lovable rogues or bloodthirsty killers? We’ll present some facts — you decide!
