Newport Harbor Nautical Museum/ExplorOcean joined the American Legion Post 291, the American Legion Yacht Club and the Wooden Hull Yacht Club in sponsorship of the second annual Wooden Boat Festival that took place at the American Legion Yacht Club of Newport Beach on Saturday, October 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A celebratory opening reception offering live music, complimentary wine and appetizers was hosted by the Museum at American Legion Yacht Club on Friday, October 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Wooden Boat Festival showcased the beauty, elegance and history of the wooded watercraft. 30 boats ranging from 20 to 85 feet were displayed in the bay with an additional 40 dry boats exhibited in the parking lot. Highlights of this year’s collection included the 85-foot P-520 World War II US. Army Air Corps crash boat, Errol Flynn’s former iconic yacht “Cheerio II,” and the 110-foot brigantine tall ship widely known as the Irving Johnson. The Irving Johnson arrived in Newport Beach on Thursday, September 30. Tours of the ship were held on Friday, October 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and continued through the Wooden Boat Festival on October 2.
