The Balboa Pavilion Grand Ballroom will showcase the exhibit portion of the conference with hundreds of ship models ranging from historic to contemporary vessels on display throughout the duration of the five-day event. Newport Harbor Nautical Museum/ExplorOcean will host the conference events and panel discussions on April 1 and 2. The museum will also present a special Western Ship Model Conference edition of the Waterman Lecture Series on March 31 titled “The United States Navel Academy Museum – Today” with the museum’s Curator of Ship Models, Donald R. The exhibition will open with a retrospective of local hero, the late Nick Scandone, a Paralympic gold medalist in sailing. A celebratory reception and fundraiser will be held at the museum from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Gary Jobson, President of U.S. Sailing will deliver a special presentation in Nick’s honor and will be joined onstage by past, present and future sailing Olympians and Paralympians.
