Make a Difference at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum/ExplorOcean

If you are looking to develop professional skills, make an impact in your community, or just have fun doing a good thing- join us as a Shipmate volunteer. We offer a number of interesting and unique opportunities for volunteers to get involved. Below are just some of our current volunteer opportunities:

Outreach

Volunteers can help represent the Museum at local community events and venues speaking to the public about our offerings in education programs, activities and special events. A fun afternoon commitment for outgoing volunteers!

Education Programs

Whether you are helping local pre-schoolers with arts and crafts during our Sea Tales program or conducting science experiments on our boat field-trip, Climate Quest, or even assisting with our popular Watermen Lecture Series there are endless ways to contribute to our goal of providing enriching and fun educational experiences for all members of our community.

Administration

If you are interested in building your professional skills in an office setting we need you. Whether assisting staff on preparing letters for community-wide mailings, or simply filing important documents- your help is needed!

Collections

The Museum has an impressive collection including interesting nautical artifacts, archived photos, rare footage of local history and much more. If you are interested in material culture or just local history this is a one-of-a-kind experience to make a personal connection with unique pieces from the past.

Special Events

As a special event volunteer you have an exclusive opportunity to participate behind-the-scenes on one of our many exciting events including exhibit openings, fundraisers or hosted receptions.

We are also currently looking for individuals with wooden boat restoration experience to offer their services on a pro bono basis.
