ExplorOcean/Newport Harbor Nautical Museum is participating in the National Endowment of the Art’s Blue Star Museum program which grants FREE admission to active-duty military personnel and their immediate family over the summer.  The program is honored at museums across the country.

ExplorOcean/NHNM offers free admission all year round to military members and will be open on Memorial Day.

March with us in the Balboa Island Parade.  A fun community event that takes place on Balboa Island.

Fun In the Sun!

Learn about all the fun activities you can do at the beach during story time. Then head outside to draw your own beach scene using chalk! Lastly decorate your own inflatable beach ball to take with you on your next beach trip!

ExplorOcean/Newport Harbor Nautical Museum is introducing Family Fun Zone Fridays this summer at the Balboa Fun Zone.  Beginning in June, visitors will enjoy a mix of FREE hands on activities, interactive programs and live entertainment that will connect them to the living museum in their backyard.  Activities include: science-based experiments, nautical arts and crafts and family-friendly audio tours through our Ship Model Gallery.  For the first time, ExplorOcean/NHNM will introduce a blast from the past to the exhibits.  Experience and learn from an ‘exhibit interactor’, dressed in an authentic period costume from our nautical pastime.  Visitors will be able try-on costumes and immerse themselves into history.  Throughout the evening guests will enjoy a variety of entertainment featuring live music, face painters and stilt walkers.

Participation is FREE, so bring your family and friends down to the waterfront at the Balboa Fun Zone starting June 15, 2012 at 5PM!

Eight Legs are Better than Two!

Explore the depths of the ocean with a friendly eight-legged creature- the octopus! Join us for story time and chalk and bubbles. Then create your very own eight legged creatures to take home with you!

Our free summer family festival series, Family Fun Zone Friday’s continues on Friday, July 13 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. All around the Balboa Fun Zone enjoy live entertainment, children’s activities and extended gallery hours.

Hawaiian Adventure

The Hawaiian oceans and beach culture are fascinating. Come learn more about the beaches of Hawaii during story time. Then create your very own hula skirt and lei to practice hula dancing!

Explore the world of sharks- from Great White sharks to the smaller Zebra shark during story time. Then head outside and draw your favorite shark using chalk! Lastly create your own shark maracas so you can make music with your friends!

Ariel from the Little Mermaid loved our human world, now let’s check out her Mer-world! Learn more about mermaids and mermen adventures during story time, then go out side and draw their underwater oasis in chalk. No mermaid or mermen would be complete with out their very own crown, so join us in making a special one just for you!

Music by the Bay is our popular musical reception series.  Please join us on Friday, September 28th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for an evening of fun and friends at the Museum.  Enjoy a night of live music and complementary wine and appetizers on our waterfront courtyard and galleries overlooking the beautiful surroundings of Newport Harbor.  Come early to enjoy restaurants, retailers and attractions along the boardwalk.
